NEW REPORT: Clean Energy Generates Over $32 Million in Revenue for Ohio

Columbus, July 31 - A new report finds Ohio’s private sector has invested nearly $4.65 billion in utility-scale solar, wind, and storage projects, helping drive economic growth in the state. Clean Energy Powers Ohio, a report published by the American Clean Power Association (ACP), finds 3.5% of electricity in the state is provided by wind and solar, with that share poised to grow through 2030.

“Clean energy projects generate $32 million annually for Ohio communities through land-lease and tax payments. This revenue helps bridge budget shortfalls, allows communities to invest in roads, schools, and essential services, and creates stable jobs in construction, development, and the opening of more solar panel manufacturing facilities in the state.” ACP State Affairs Director, Moira Cyphers.

Currently, Ohio’s total clean energy capacity stands at nearly 2,900 megawatts. This is enough electricity to power the equivalent of over 710,000 homes. Ohio also hosts 60 operating clean energy manufacturing facilities. The clean energy economy created by these projects supports jobs for over 9,000 Ohioans.

Report Highlights:

  • Ohio hosts 60 operating clean energy manufacturing facilities.
  • Wind, solar and energy storage projects are responsible for 9,000 jobs in the state.
  • Today, 3.5% of the state’s electricity comes from wind and solar. That is enough electricity to power over 710,000 homes.
  • Private sector investments in Ohio’s clean power total $4.65 billion.
  • Solar, wind, and storage provide 9,000 jobs to Ohioans.
  • As of April 2024, there are 4,205 MW of utility-scale clean capacity under development. This is enough to power the equivalent of over 2 million homes in Ohio.
  • The increased clean energy activity will spur job growth, increase estimated tax payments to $67 million annually, and generate $77 million in annual land lease payments.
